Bringing a Japanese Presence to the State of Texas, USA

Tokio Marine America
Tokio Marine Insurance began operations in 1879 as the first insurance company in Japan, and a branch office in the United States was established in 1911. For over a century now, the company has steadily grown, primarily supported by relationships with other Japanese companies operating in the United States.
Our role as an insurance company is to provide people and organizations with peace of mind, knowing that, in the event of injury or loss of property, we are there to provide protection and help make them whole again. We offer many different insurance products to assist our customers.
Plano Office
Tokio Marine America’s presence in the United States has historically been on the East and West Coasts, however, I was one of the first hired in the state of Texas. I have lived in the Dallas (north Texas) area for the past 15 years, more specifically in Plano, which is a city just north of Dallas.
While I was initially the only employee in the north Texas area, thanks in part to the growing interest of Japanese companies in opening bases here we now have a full office in Plano that services our customers in Texas as well as the rest of the United States.
My Journey with Tokio Marine America
Prior to joining Tokio Marine America, I admittedly did not have a lot of familiarity with
the company or Japanese culture. In my pursuit of an organization that best aligned with my
career aspirations, I was presented with an opportunity to join Tokio Marine America to
support the company’s presence and growth in and around Texas. It did not take long to
realize that the culture and people at Tokio Marine were exactly what I was looking for.
As my passion for and understanding of Japanese culture has grown, it has been thrilling to
see the same awareness take hold throughout the United States. This past year, Tokio Marine
employees and family members were invited to march in New York City for the 2023 Japan
Parade. Our Tokio Marine America CEO, Daisuke Ugaeri, was the chairman of the parade this
year, and TMA had a full parade float featuring taiko drummers
and dancers. Our employees
were able to show their pride in working for Tokio Marine, and had the chance to share our
culture with over 50,000 spectators!

Life Outside the Office
Having two young daughters, aged 4 and 6 years old, most of my time outside of work revolves around their sports and other activities, and I find the most enjoyment in being able to help them learn and grow through new experiences. They are both at a fun age to travel with, so we have started to take more family vacations, both extended road trips or flying to visit family throughout the country. Our hope is to plan a trip to Japan in 2025 to visit many of the friends we have made in my time at Tokio Marine!
