I had the privilege to join NYKSM in 2006 as a chief officer on a container ship. I was promoted to container ship captain in 2007 and then moved into a shore-based role in Singapore as HSEQ manager in 2011.

Our company is involved in the safe and efficient technical management and crewing of ships owned and operated by our principal, NYK Line. We also provide training services to our crew. We take pride in managing all kind of vessels spanning the entire range of gas carriers, tankers, containers, car carriers and bulk carriers. We also manage specialized ships like slurry carriers, self-unloading salt carriers, vessels powered by alternate fuels like LNG and LPG, and methanol dual-fueled vessels.

Singapore is a very safe, cosmopolitan city where you will meet people from all over the world. It is a real foodie’s paradise, offering different cuisines to suit everyone’s taste, from neighborhood food courts to Michelin star restaurants. Chicken rice and chili crab are amongst the most popular Singaporean dishes. For both locals and visitors, the Newton Food Center, Satay by the Bay, and Satay Street @ Lau Pa Sat are top choices.

Singapore is also a good tourist destination with lots of activities to keep people of all ages entertained. The Zoo, Night Safari, S.E.A. Aquarium, Gardens By The Bay, Universal Studios, Sentosa, Marina Bay Sands and Singapore Flyer have all been created for the pleasure of locals and tourists alike.

Chinatown, Little India and Arab Street are also popular tourist destinations where the old-world cultural flavors of Singapore can be experienced.

Singapore is also a very good destination for shopping. Going to the different malls is considered a very good leisure time activity and there are plenty of shopping and entertainment opportunities on offer. Vivo City, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, Palais Renaissance and Ion Orchard are just a few of the malls.

As promoted under the stay healthy campaign run by the Singaporean government and endorsed by NYKSM, sporting activities are an important part of our lifestyle. This fits in perfectly with my own passion, which is to play any sport that is available to me. NYKSM encourages sporting activities, and we have our own cricket, futsal, badminton and golf teams that take part in several competitions.
Singapore also has a lot of interconnected jogging, cycling and trekking routes crisscrossing the entire city. I enjoy going on treks with friends and find this to be a very relaxing late Sunday afternoon activity, before the work week starts.
